So all you have to do is download the NTSA app from the Google Play Store, create a TIMS (Transport Integrated Management Systems) account, and use the National Transport Safety Authority’s services.

Don’t have a TIMS account? Well, here’s the procedure on how to create one:

1. Navigate to the TIMS link.
2. Navigate to the right side of the Individuals tab and click Register.
3. Click “verify” after entering your ID serial number (not the ID number).
4. After that, enter your KRA pin and your mother’s maiden name correctly.
5. You will then be asked to enter your occupation and mobile phone number.
6. To proceed, click the button next to the phone number to request a verification code.
7. A verification number will be sent to the phone number you provided shortly.
8. Add the code to the verification tab, and you’re done. You are now able to access your TIMS account successfully.

Once there, you can check the status of your vehicle’s inspection with the app.

How to book a motor vehicle inspection step by step

1. To begin, go to ntsa.go.ke and sign in to your Transport Integrated Management Systems (TIMS) account to access the inspection services [you can also login directly through your NTSA mobile app].
2. To begin the booking process, go to the motor vehicle inspection tab.
3. If you are a new customer, click “new car booking” and enter the entry number for your vehicle.
4. Just below “New Car Booking,” click on the “Annual Booking” bar.
5. Enter your vehicle’s registration number and select the vehicle to be inspected.
6. Select your preferred payment method and proceed to make payments using your preferred money transfer service. Mpesa, Airtel Money, debit, credit, cash, or KCB Bank are all options.
7. After making your payment, click the “Complete” button to receive a receipt that must be printed.
8. After the payment, go back to complete the inspection booking process.
9. Click on the “booking” tab.
10. Choose the most convenient inspection station for your booking.
11. Set a date and time for the inspection.

Which vehicles are taken for inspection in Kenya?

The online inspection process went into effect after outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta signed the Traffic Amendment Bill, 2021, on June 22.

The Motor Vehicle Inspection Unit is required to inspect all vehicles that are more than four years old from the date of manufacture.

All private cars that are more than four years old from the recorded date of manufacture must undergo an inspection test every two years, according to the NTSA, while all commercial vehicles, public service vehicles, and school buses must undergo a preregistration inspection and an annual periodic motor vehicle inspection thereafter.
