Alfred Mutua was born on August 22, 1970, in Masii, Machakos County.

He was raised in a humble background with his sister, Ann Mutua.

During his childhood, his family moved from Masii to Makina in Kibera, Nairobi, and he attended primary school there.

Alfred Mutua has worked odd jobs as a means of survival since he was a child, including construction (mjengo).

However, at some point in his life, he began to make a U-turn and began landing opportunities.

In 1995, he did his internship in Kenya and was given the opportunity to write for the Daily Nation.

At the age of 27, he got a job as a lecturer at Daystar University, where he taught media, communication, and filmmaking, after finishing his studies abroad.

Alfred had a company, Golden Dreams Company (GDC), which he ran alongside his career since he was 21 years old.

Apparently, he began his career in the United States, working for several television stations in Seattle, Washington.

In 1997, he began working for Nation Media Group as a features writer and reporter.

Mutua was elected on a Wiper Party ticket in 2013 and took office as Governor of Machakos County for two terms (10 years) until 2022.
