Biography of Ann Kananu Mwenda
Ann Kananu was born in Embu County in May 1980.
She is a brilliant scholar with degrees from several universities.
She has also worked for Mokir Enterprises, Mogambi & Co. Advocates, and the County Government of Nairobi in various positions.
Following the impeachment of ex-governor Mike Sonko, Ann Kananu served as Nairobi County deputy governor from January 15, 2021, to November 16, 2021, after being approved by the County Legislature.
As of November 16, 2021 to August 2022, Ann was serving as the governor of Nairobi County.

Anne Kananu began her education at St. Michael Primary School before proceeding to Our Lady of Mercy Girls Secondary School in Tharaka Nithi, where she completed her secondary education in 1999.
She graduated from Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Security Management.
This is in addition to the Diploma in Criminology and Security Management obtained from St. Paul’s University in 2013.
She also holds a Certificate in Human Resource Management and a Certificate in Public Relations, both awarded by the University of Nairobi between 2011 and 2013.

Ann Kananu worked in customer service and as the Chief Executive Officer’s personal assistant at Mokir Enterprises from 2002 to 2003 [Mokir Enterprises was a Safaricom Consultancy Firm in charge of customer services].
Ann also worked as a personal assistant for H. Mogambi & Co. Advocates from 2003 to 2004.
Ms. Kananu, at some point, also served as a switchboard operator at the Kenya College of Communications Technology.
Furthermore, she previously worked for the Kenya Airports Authority for 13 years as a security supervisor in charge of Quality Control and Training before becoming the Nairobi County Chief Officer in charge of Disaster Management and Coordination in May 2018.
In November 2019, Ann was appointed to Nairobi County as chief officer of water, and later on January 6, 2020, she was nominated as the deputy governor of Nairobi County, a position that had been vacant for two years after Polycarp Igathe quit.
Ann Kananu managed to push through all the hurdles until January 15, 2021, when she was sworn in as the Nairobi deputy governor and served until November 16 2021.
She later served as the governor of Nairobi County from November 16, 2021 to August 2022.
Prior to the August 2022 general elections, she said that she would no longer defend her seat in the elections, but would support Paul Igathe’s bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
